1940's era Steel Engraving Printing Plate featuring the "Queen of the Nudists",
ZORIMA
!!
Please see all
eight
photos, as they are an important part of my description. This weighty, vintage printing plate measures approximately
9" x 6"
and has a purple tint when reflected in light (I am not certain if this is considered a "conventional one-sided negative printing plate", or a "conventional newspaper plate"; the sturdy and thick plate weighs nearly 12 oz.). This
rare
and most likely one-of-a-kind ink plate features
Zorima
for an appearance in
Portland, Oregon
at the
Nu-Gaiety Club
. The burlesque performer was born
Margaret Lehitinen
in Erie, Pennsylvania. My final photo (#8) is an image of Zorima I found on the web; she is prominently featured on the offered print plate (on left portion) in all her splendor...a classic head-to-toe pose! I have deciphered many of the words/text on the plate (which of course are backwards in appearance). <>These words and text include: The Nu-Gaiety Club's address and phone number, listed as "1st & Main, Atwater 1964";
Portland's Only Big Girl Revue; The Biggest and Best Stage Show in Portland; Held Over! A Second Glorious Week - ZORIMA, Queen of the Sun-Bathers"....
and more great content!

History
:
Zorima
worked Burlesque Nighteries starting as a showgirl in 1931 along with her two sisters. Zorima swam the Ohio River as a publicity stunt for a local club appearance (she did other stunts as well, such as at the
Golden Gate International Expo
in 1939). In 1933, Zorima was dancing the Nudist role of the
Chicago Century of Progress Expo
, and in 1934 was featured again as a Nudist in
Zoro Gardens
at the
Pacific International Expo
in San Diego, California which is where she obtained the moniker of "Zorima". She was managed by her husband, W.W. McCloskey as the William McCloskey
"Zorima Nudists"
.
In 1940 she appeared in the
New York World's Fair
"Her Garden of Nudists and Sun Bathers"
carnival show. In 1941, she was hired to perform as a midway-featured show called
"Zorima Gardens"
. The burlesque stripper queen would appear in four World's Fairs in total and (after her husband passed away) was one of the few women to actually
own
a carnival show on the West Coast.

Condition:
the print plate exhibits general age/handling faults that would be typical of a vintage plate. A majority of the words and text present on the plate are readable, and the image of Zorima is quite clear!
