Description
A very early and rare Museum Quality Georgian Love Token Mourning Jewelry Locket Pendant. On one side of the locket is an exquisite miniature painting of two dove birds on a pedestal with the word LOVE below a red garland ribbon. The pedestal or urn is framed by two trees and is set on a grassy hill. Finding a Love Token with such beautiful imagery of the doves, the word LOVE, and the pastoral setting with the large green trees is exceedingly rare and makes the jewel a highly regarded piece. The cover is hinged on this side and opens so that you may add a photo, portrait or memento to the locket. On the other side is a domed compartment which contains a lock of hair and a very rare miniature pearl necklace. This miniature pearl necklace is just extraordinary and is one of the most unusual elements of a Love Mourning jewel that we have ever seen. This is a very early jewel - most likely dating to the 18th Century to early 19th Century. The frame tests for a low karat gold or gold filled. The bale is 10 Karat Gold. The jewel is worthy of the antique jewelry collections in the Victoria and Albert Museum in London and the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston. The pendant is 2 inches (50mm) tall including the bales. Without the bales the locket is 1 5/8 inches tall and is 1 1/4 inches (33mm) wide. The locket weighs 8.1 grams.Rare Georgian Love Token Mourning Locket Pendant Pearl Necklace Pineapple Urn
