Picture camera Quartz-2
"Quartz-2" - the improved modification of picture cameras of Quartz family. Intended for creation of movies on a film of 2х8 mm.
It was issued since 1961 at the Krasnogorsk mechanical plant
On technical performances "Quartz-2" - the camera of average type. The device differed in the high level of reliability and durability. Back wind of a film, shooting with flow, a possibility of filming of without assistance – all this positioned "Quartz-2" as a multifunction motion-picture camera.
The light meter which is built in the camera provided semi-automatic installation of a diaphragm. A lens of "Quartz-2" - the clarified 4-lens anastigmat "Jupiter-24" (mm R=12,5, отн. a hole – 1:1,9). Built rigidly in the camera, this high-aperture lens provided the high level of sharpness of the image at distance from 1,6 m. At the same time, focusing at this lens was absent, but it didn't influence quality of shooting in any way.
The front lens of a lens is drowned in a casing that protected it from influence of harmful reflexes and increased contrast range level.
The view-finder of "Quartz-2" - telescopic, with increase 0,8kh. It provided more detail reviewing and the best configuration of a frame.
"Quartz-2" with standard spools for a film of 2x8 mm was loaded. The formatted capacity of each spool – 7,5 m Krom standard, was applied to the camera the special spool having in the middle of both flayets 3 notches (3x3). Retake on the same track of a film was excluded.
Pressing level – removable. It acted for cleaning of the film channel in which there was a side clip of a film. At the camera there is also a clamshell mechanism, the counter of not exposed film and the disk shutter giving high level uniformity of exposure of a frame.
The picture camera drive "Quartz-2" - spring. The picture camera allows to carry out shootings with rate of 8, 16 and 32 fpses.
The motion-picture camera worked in three modes – normal, frame and the long. Setup of an operating mode was carried out by means of the turning handhold. The button of descent settled down in the lower part of the camera. The pistol handhold gave the chance of carrying out shooting from one hand.
This film is standard 8mm film, also know as regular 8 film format or double 8.
On the first pass though the camera, the film is exposed only along half of its width. When the first pass is complete,
the operator opens the camera and flips and swaps the spools.
The same film is exposed along its other edge. After the film is developed, the processor splits
it down the middle resulting in two lengths of 8mm film (double 8mm), single perforated on each side.
